Silence the Stones: How to avoid Gossip & Slander in your Church
We all have experience at one time or another how spoken words have instigated an unfounded rumor about someone, or have witnessed the devastation words can trigger when a person was told what someone had said about them.
The words we express unveil the way we feel and therefore since words can bake up destruction, words can ruin your relationships with family and friends and can affect how others perceive you.
The Bible warn us of the danger instigated by one's tongue: “Keep thy tongue from evil and thy lips from speaking guile”( Psalm 34:13).
Have you heard, “ Mary’s husband is cheating on her, “ “Deacon Troy’s lights were cut off!” or Pastor was seen drunk the other day.” All are examples of how Satan uses our tongue to sin in the most subtle ways. “A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.”( Proverb 115:4).
Furthermore, it is awkwardly embarrassing and inappropriate for Christians to engage in slander or gossip. Gossip and slander produce conflict and division in God’s house. As a believer in Christ, our hearts, minds, and our tongues should spread the good news.
When someone approaches you with gossip, or speak to slander others, cut them off and say, “ Satan get thee behind me”! Whenever you find yourself with thoughts of gossip, begin to mediate on God’s word. As Christians, always be mindful of Satan’s tactics to get you to sin.
